Steps to Kosher Certification
Request an application- Initial discussion, general outline
Submission of application - Details of ingredients, equipment, and manufacturing process
Preliminary inspection - Official inspection of entire company upon return of the application. Preliminary inspection may or may not require a fee. Expenses may be charged to the company.
Certification inspection - upon payment of set-up fee, senior VAAD personnel make certification inspection for on-site review of kosher status. Set-up fee requires a minimum of $500, plus any necessary expenses.
Final review - After this review the full requirements for kosher supervision will be outlined. This includes the frequency of continuing supervision, the need for kosherization, or other procedures that may be required before certification can occur.
Contract offered - At this point an estimate of the total fees and a contract will be offered to the company.
Compliance - The Company must then sign the contract and comply with all the requirements, including payment of fees.
Certification - Upon completion of the above. A kosher certificate is issued. Supervision begins.
